Well, the US Senate today did the expected, ignoring the will of the American people and voting with the gun manufacturers lobby to kill several reasonable attempts at gun control.
The media has been using the term “gun lobby” to refer to the National Rifle Association (NRA) and other groups. But these organizations are just a front for the gun manufacturers, so I think it is more appropriate to refer to the NRA as the gun manufacturers lobby. The NRA does not even represent its own members, the majority of whom favor some control of guns, particularly background checks that would keep guns out of the hands of people with mental problems. But Wayne LaPierre does not represent the members, he represents the gun manufacturers. I hope that all NRA members with a conscience will consider resigning their membership. Look at what the NRA is doing with your money. Is that what you want?
The votes today also point out, yet again, that the two party, republicans vs. democrats game is just a sham to hide the fact that both parties are largely controlled by corporate interests. A lot of people are saying we need to vote the republicans out of office. I think we need to vote the corporatists out of office. The Green Party is the only answer to taking back our country from the corporations.
There is blood on the hands of those Senators who voted against gun control. They have chosen money over people, and that choice will always lead to blood on the hands, sooner or later.
